Let me start off by saying that I sincerely apologize to whomever has been waiting for more updates to this site, I realize I have been on a bit of a hiatus. I have had this one recipe floating around in my head for WEEKS, I have not been able to get to it. I promise there is a very good reason for it. My friend and fellow blogger Alena, mistress of www.mementobracelet.com¬† has joined in my “I am so damn sick of winter” sentiment here . But that is only part of it.

Last June I suffered a rather serious accident on my bicycle and broke the all important olecrenon (elbow) in my right arm, ruined my whole summer, yet built up my motivation to keep in shape and carry on no matter what. All has healed with the help of thrice weekly therapy, but I still have some lingering issues / pain.

So I headed to the doctor. Guess what? Carpal tunnel syndrome and major full arm tendinitis  has reared its ugly head. This is just a minor setback for me and I plan on continuing my fitness and Kitchen journey despite this little annoyance. 3 weeks in a splint and a regimen of anti-inflammatories.

Needless to say, this will put me off kneading bread for a little while.  For now, here are some natural anti-inflammatories:

  • Celery: In soups, salads and rice dishes, or simply eaten raw. I love this one!
  • Beets: I LLOOOVE juicing beets. My favorite is Beet/Ginger juice. So refreshing and healthy!
  • Turmeric: There has been a lot of buzz about this special spice. It has been used as a potent anti-inflammatory for centuries in China and India. I sprinkle this on potatoes for oven roasting, toss a little in with pilafs and soups and makes the egg yolk mixture for deviled eggs very yellow, lets not forget CURRIES!! Be careful, because turmeric stains in a matter of minutes!
  • Oily fish: sardines, salmon, mackerel, tuna. Mix some diced celery in with your tuna salad and you’ll have a mega anti-inflammatory lunch.
  • Ginger: Ohh…ginger. How do I count the ways? Ginger tea, Ginger Vegetable Rice, Lemon Ginger Marmalade, gingerbread, ginger pudding, ginger candy, ginger this, ginger that…maybe I am getting carried away. I adore this root.


Maybe I will come up with a recipe that incorporates all of these and be done with it!
